Open Studio week. The new Prototype 2 refinement, a mix of wood and 3D print, was completed on 26 March ahead of the opening. The combination of materials works better than either alone: the wood gives weight and warmth, the 3D print gives precision where the form needs it.
The open studio opened on 31 March. Diploma students were curious, general visitors engaged with the controller directly. There's something different about presenting the work in a live environment versus a consultation, the object has to speak for itself without framing.
WEEK 12
31 March - 2 April
Three-day open studio. Diploma students, general visitors, B.RU. crew, and Riduan attended across the run.
Wood + 3D Print Mix
New prototype combining wood and 3D print, weight and warmth from the wood, precision from the print. Completed 26 March.
Matthew visited on 1 April and suggested mixing materiality further, nuances of instruments, he said. Syafiq visited the same day and suggested attending his Saturday show. Talked to Ari about data input focus. These conversations in the space of the open studio are their own form of user testing.
2 April: B.RU. crew and Riduan came through. The zine layout was drafted across the week alongside the studio, typeface work, test prints, and laser cutting running in parallel with the public-facing studio days.
